Nottingham Malaysian Games 2008

What better way to start the Nottingham Malaysian Games 2008, than in typical Malaysian Fashion?! I slept like a Malaysian, overslept like a Malaysian, and rushed over like a Malaysian to arrive beautifully on Malaysian timing!!!

MUST WATCH THIS AWESOME VIDEO OF THE GAMES!!!
Perfect =D Lucky for me, I did not have any significant duties in the morning.

But then I crossed paths with The Bouncer in his "Leather" Jacket. Uh-oh...

Big Birds back view look super ganas.
My legs turned into jelly...
A smile and a joke later, I was squrming past the Big Bouncer into the Opening Ceremony!
Wee...!!

Got a bird eye's view from above.
At that time, I did feel quite sad that the people had to sit on the floor.
Like kindergarten Story Time like that. Ahah!
Despite the crowd in this shot, the other half of the crowd is actually OUTSIDE this hall.
They were denied entry because they were late.
Come on la, can't blame Malaysians for being Malaysians mah!
In contrast, Very-late-me can go in because I'm The Volunteer with a green shirt.
Man, I love the extra privileges, teeheehee~!

Hand shaking because I came out without breakfast =(
A few shiny looking trophies, the VIPs.
It took FOREVER for the speeches to end, seems that the cold weather won't stop them from berleter-leter panjang lebar.
*I would write this entry in Malay, but my tatabahasa is getting from bad to worse*
*And I know most of us don't miss Malay that much anyway =P *

Emcee, "Please raise your right hand"
Me, "OMG, don't tell me they're gonna do the ikrar behind our little brown exercise books"
Emcee, "Kami berikrar..."
Me, "Aiya, forgot all the lines already!" *Sweating like mad*
Emcee, "...went on with another kind of ikrar..."
It's just doing some sports and exercise, like that also need to ikrar?

Before the Games begin, camwhore a bit first...
SayYuen, Myself, Big Bird The Big Bouncer and Brian Pota-Teo.

I look like I'm cheerleading with 2 x EXTRA LARGE green Pom-Poms.
Big Bird and Kelvin have like giant hands, you can't see my body anymore.

Manja with Daddy How at the Table Tennis room first...
Could I have been *secretly* trying to influence the Table Tennis scores?

... Because my friend YukChang from UCL was competing.
That one on the other side of the table.
His opponent looked so huge and intimidating in comparison.
Now you see him...

And now you don't.
Where did that big guy disappear to?
Poor YukChang continued playing on his own and went on to win this match =D

Finally caught this Long Lost Friend, whom I have not seen since my A'Level days in Taylors College. Only heard him once when he called me from UK when our darling Kimi Raikkonen won the Drivers Championship in 2007!

A box of Krispy Kreme that he bought me =P
Thank you YukChang, you're the best.
And you're in Ling's Book of Records for supplying me my first ever Krispy Kreme!

Met Tad-Song-the-Great.
After a bit of IM-ing a few years back, free-parking on my MSN list for another few years...
I have finally managed to stand in his towering presence. (seriouslyhedamntallidon'twanttostandsonearagain)

Myself, TadSong, YukChang and the famous Michelle Lau.

The Volunteer's Free Lunch as promised by the Nottingham Malaysian Society (NMS).
To be honest, it was no where near free. Had to walk so much and so far for it.
As if that is not enough torture for The-Hungry-Volunteer, have to "Treasure-Hunt" it down some more. This is too much ah! *Saying it like Phua Chu Kang*

The Volunteer was still very hungry, so she went around foraging food from people whom she thinks can lose a few pounds.
Thank you Brian. May God bless you.

Another picture with Big Bird.
I sayang him loads. He so give face, never once shied from my camera. *HUGS*

This picture speaks more than a thousand words for sure!
Brian's ultra rare uncool facial expressive frozen, in this picture, on my blog,
for ALL ETERNITY!!
Bwahahahahaha...

Oh yeah, and then I went to lepak with the Chess Competition fellas after lunch.
Now I realise how interesting it can be watching nerds battling nerds ,
all to be crowned the nerdiest of them all! *Cheers*
Just kidding, I love nerds. What would we do without them.
Check mate, yo!

Okay, so maybe chess can be a wee bit draggy...
So while waiting for the nerd's next big move, we camwhore!
Introducing Shy Lih and Elaine, both live directly underneath my floor.
Eeee... see all my dark eye circles! Gross!

With SiowChin who practically lives next door.
How can she look younger than me T__T

Simon and I look like muka baru kena belasah.
Hahaha. I've got him addicted on my massage now =P

SiowChin and Grace having their "Appetizer" before we start work serving dinner.
With food in their hands, they really can't be bothered with who's capturing their gluttony on camera! Lol. Girls and chocolates. Whatever makes them happy.

Me and my Grace darling with her Million Dollar Smile.

Setting up the VIP's table.
It was then we realised that none of us have pay attention in Kemahiran Hidup.
Pharmacy girls scratching their head, and squeezing brain juice on table arrangements.
Sad case la.

Everybody rejoicing with the arrival of FOOD!!!
FOOD!!! Isn't that what Malaysians are all about?
No? Slap you. Malaysia should disown you.
LOL.

Us pharmacy girls then have to serve food to everyone.
Green shirt ones get extra drumstick with my compliments! =D

Appetizer: Salad

The crowd favourite of the night: Curry Puffs!
There was this guy, who came back 5-6 times just for the puffs.
And yes, he took the very last one.

Spicy Rice, slightly different from the local Nasi Briyani.

I was the Drumstick and Curry Puff "Guardian".
Serving like a crab like that, a tong in each hand.
Ish, the chicken is like SUPER TASTY!!!
So tasty we EACH secretly tarpao-ed HALF A DOZEN back home to last us the week!
I know, very cheapskate! But lazy to cook ma, plus got plenty of leftovers, don't waste.
Looks like I'll be spending less than 5 pounds again this week =P

Main course: Curry Veggies

Main course: Curry Chicken

Dessert: Halwa
No idea what it really is, but it tastes super duper nice. Sweet potato with butter me thinks.
Makes a lovely warm dessert! Wondering where to find this again in UK.

What's a big meal together without a huge ass...
YUM SENG chant...
YUM.....YUM, YUM, YUM, YUM SENG!!!

My Malaysian buddies. Paris Adventure Gang. Yeah!
Kelvin, SayYuen, Julyan, Myself, Big Bird, Daniel, Simon and Daddy How.
Woohoo, I'm the centre of attention! Perasan-nye saya =P

The family and Little Illegal Me.
Muka tembok go gatecrash people's photo.

And finally, the event was a success because all the hungry volunteers were fed.
The Nottingham Malaysian Society 2008 everybody.
*Cue: Applause*

Thank you.

guy fawkes day

On every 5th November, is Guy Fawkes day.

They told me its a massive must-go event, with fireworks and bonfires!

Why is there a huge celebration for this guy? Did Guy Fawkes win British Idol or something?

Not one to miss out on hot celebrities, I wiki-ed Mr.Fawkes. To my disappointment, he's not a star. He has a beard. And he's dead.

*shiverrrsss*

That aside, I had a good time.
Just the 4 of us, celebrating our virgin GF (Guy Fawkes la, what are you thinking) Day.

Michael & Gary (PRO-camwhore) both from Hong Kong.
Myself and Say Yuen both from The Land of Pan Mee *SLURPSS*

My random scribblings on the bus.
Unfortunately for me, as always, it was raining, and the wind was strong that day.
And it was colddd, so so very colddddddd....

However, the beautiful city of Nottingham at city made it all worthwhile.

The Cinema. So romantic right?
The photo below is much better than this!

Told ya, told ya, told ya, told ya.... repeat x infinity!
This my good people is Old Market Square. The heart of Nottingham.

From here, we take the Tram to "Forest", where the fair is.
Allow me to show you bits and pieces of the fair.

Not the cheap rides you get in Genting ok.
These travelling fairs have some VERY GOOD rides.
I mean, I don't even have the balls to go for this one.
Not that I have any balls. Just an expression.

Some very interesting rides don't you think.
Unpredictable, refreshing, and definitely exciting.
For 2 or 3 pounds/ride, they will attempt to bring out your dinner.

Bumper Cars!
The story behind this is more than a thousand words.
Warning: NEVER EVER get into a car or vehicle (not even a bumper car) with Michael on the wheel, if you value your life, you will want to trust me.
My knees were totally weak from laughing at Say Yuen freaking out, and watching the car disobey Michael's feeble attempts to conquer it.
Michael was so OWNED by the car.

Something familiar at last! But they're kiddie games here.

No story here, just a random shot.
They do have something similar to the Solero in Genting though.
Travelling fair only ok, pro or not?! Genting you cheat peoples money lo.

Even the games also also extra cute, and the toys, well, I want one too!!

While waiting for the fireworks and the bonfire to start, we wait for it, the lala way!
What lala way, you might ask? Camwhore, of course!

Firstly, IT'S NOT WHAT IT SEEMS!!!
I was going to try and "smoke" because my breath was creating vapours!
And then Gary damn busybody come interrupt my photo.

Sharing cotton candy!
The wind so bad la, ruin my hair.

Lookie's who I caught?
Note: That's not my hair. I swear.

Another masterpiece from the Mr.Pro-Camwhore himself.

Doughnut & Toffee pieces with chocolate fondue!!

Michael and I showing off our cotton candy and quarter pounder burger!

Cravings for hot food in cold weather.
You know what they say, street food IS BETTER than restaurant food!

Gay. Ewww...
Don't look so much, later you get a growth in your eyes.

People marching to light the bonfire.

It started small, very small!

And then it became HUGE!
I could feel the heat although I'm about 20 metres away from the flame.
Instantly, I turned from freezing to warm and fuzzy!

*Video of fireworks*
Will be uploaded soon. Can't be done now because of internet problems.
Check this space.

Food in uk

Meet my "daddy", How. No really, his name is HOW, fullstop.
He's a cool dad this one, with his Apple Green Macbook and iPhone.

That's SayYuen trying to grab some chocolate cookies.

My daddy makes Killer Chicken Rice!!!
Old School style. Rindu-nya...
And Bak Kut Teh, and loads of other yummy stuff...
So yummy that all his housemates growing fatter by the day, lol!

Found my Camwhore kaki PotaTeo.
Days when my hair was still long.

And then we went for DimSum at Ocean City because they have 30% discounts on weekdays!

The Gang who Gorged DimSum on a Wednesday.
Gary, Say Yuen, Michael, Myself and Alfred

Gary trying to act cool.
But the only cool thing here is probably the tea.

Some DimSum pictures to stimulate your appetite.
Zoomed extra large, so you hate me now?

Siew Long Pao.
Hahaha, please give me satisfaction by growling your stomach please!
I'll leave the food reviews to Food Critic Michael.

Alfred very give face ok. Pose more cute than me. I respect you!!
But the head looks a little dislocated here. Hmmm...
Get well soon please my friend.

With Uncle Mike.

Gary and Say Yuen.
Gary is like this fella out of TVB. Don't know how he manages to give 1001 facial expressions while still looking so pretty!!

What's a good lunch if it wasn't followed by tea?
Apple tea and mouthwatering NY Cheesecake, courtesy of M, G and A.

I also had plenty of birthday cakes, because everyone decided that the womb is too unpopular in October. This is Pek San turning 21 in her PJs =)

About a century ago, I was also lucky enough to be invited to Bernard's place for Steamboat Open House. Seriously it was like ages ago.

Who's that drinking away?
Would you believe it if I said I wasn't drinking beer?
As a matter of fact, it was Wong Lo Kat. Believe or not.
(Cheh, steal Ripley's line, haha.)

Grilling the meat. I must say Benedict did a great job on it.
Not much pictures on it, too busy eating, don't complain.

I think I also forgot to mention that I have a Korean flatmate, EunMo?
We invited her over for dinner exchange one night.

Me and dear EunMo.

This is Cheh Yuk Puk Kum.
Pork in gravy. It's tangy, it's spicy, it's as hot as EunMo!

My favourite dish, hand rolled rice balls with seaweed and sesame.

In exchange, we made Ginger Chicken.
Looks gross but I swear it tasted damn nice that night.

Being Big Bird's Fashion Consultant

After being trapped in Broadgate Park (BGP) for a few week, I've finally outgrew my patience to go lepak in the shopping-haven of a city.
Anyway Big Bird wanted to shed his yellow feathers for cow's skin. Big big project!
Operation Leather Jacket going at full speed ahead!

2 shopping companions for the day, Daniel OMG and Big Bird.
See that Big Bird, 2 phones on his hands! *jealous*
Hmph, at least I have the C902 that you want so much =P

Daniel looking smug grabbing Furry Brown tits.
Just kidding! Melanie, I'm just kidding. He's been a good boy.

This is Big Bird - Before.

Big Bird - AFTER!!!
So handsome, can? Both of us like it so much at first sight.
But then we went looking at Marks & Spencers, TKMaxx, Topman, and a whole range of hight street retailers... still have to come back to this one!
This jacket is probably fated just for Big Bird.
No more cute fluffy yellow big bird. Just rugged, edgy Big Bird now.
Debenhams leather jacket. Price is, well, ask Big Bird yourself =)

Of course, you can't have a girl going out without her actually trying to shop something for herself. Tried on some boots in New Look. Can't decide which really.
Left or right?
(Neither's gonna make my legs look any longer anyway)

A beautiful Autumn's evening in Nottingham city.
It was about 5pm me thinks. Where's the sun?!

To be continued...
Goose Fair, Guy Fawkes Night.

nandos uk

Mummy I did something evil in UK. But I have a weird feeling you won't scold me for it. Well, maybe in front of people, but behind walls, we'll be scheming away...

This is inspired by a blog entry from a new reader who is also a blogger, who is also a friends gf, J. Teeheehee... Welcome to Ling-o-logy 101. Class has been in session since June 2006.

I'm sure pretty much every Malaysian student in the UK would've known about Free Nandos 1/2 Chicken on WinningWembley.com. The most important part of the online voucher would be the part where it says that it expires in 3 days.

Any true Malaysian would have had their Extra Hot 1/2 Chicken digested and excreted out of their system by now. Well, unless you are severely constipated. Ewww... please I don't need to know you're full of shit. Pun intended. Go eat 1kg worth of papaya guarantee your intestines will come out with your shit.

As I was saying...
Any Evil Malaysian, like moi, hohoho, would've done more than just obediently using that voucher 3 days after registration, maybe even had multiple half chickens at all 3 Nandos in Nottingham City. Catching up with my hectic schedule hadn't been easy. Considering the series of unfortunate events that has been twisting my life in 4D directions. (Yeah la I know 4D doesnt exist, just let the poor girl exagerrate a little) I missed the expiry date at 11:55pm on the same date. Dulan betul.

But then!!! Albert and Duncan gave me a brilliant idea! Them being seasoned conmen, and all that hahaha. Good conmen though, if that even makes any sense. Lol, you'll have to meet them to start loving conmens.

And then I went home and photoshopped my voucher. Here's how for freshies and future purposes.

1) Generate another new voucher with a bogus student ID, make sure the new expiry date is what you're looking for.

2) Cut the "Student ID Number" from your expired voucher and paste it on the new one.

3) Print and go claim your chicken.

Voila~! Is this kiasu or what? Probably the best thing I've done since I've been here. As if that was not enough, I also helped generate a few more vouchers for friends who had forgotten to save the PDF file. That's a little more tricky, but it can be done =)

As long as everyone is happy, (happy as above those 2, kekekeke), who cares right? Malaysians must help Malaysians be Malaysians ma. *Sniggers* They charge far too much for a piece of chicken anyway. International students who are reading this, please don't learn such bad things from us Malaysians ok. Especially you M!

I am such a bad influence, Muahahahaha...

******************************************

Had another full day lab again. This time, we were making ACE inhibitors. No idea what's that? Check your grandparent's blood pressure pills, the most common one is Enalapril. The process of synthesizing it was so gruelling I was this close to self-administering some unpuritfied ACE inhibitors by stabbing a glass pipette full of it, because my stress levels were sky high.

Except for the moment when I was coo-ing and aww-ing at my beautiful crystals! My babies did turn out plenty and lovely... =) So did my genetics lab gel electrophoresis. Hohoho, I'm so proud of them.

And then I had the most interesting piece of conversation I've had all day. Read, read...

*help The Ling... Ferrari almost had it all, screw you HamHam! says:

I think I'm turning SM. Couldn't stop ROFLMAO-ing the whole conversation. Of course, there were more to it, some part have to censor ok. Got young readers here.

That aside, I think I'm on the verge of stretching myself a little too far again. Gonna hit the sack super early with a belly full of Hot Chocolate =)

Next entry: Yet another one of my PHOTOBLOGs!! Mummy you don't want to miss out on all the things I've been up to while you're not here to keep tabs on me. Muahahaha... Chill mum, chill, I'm just kidding.

Screw HamHam

It's over.

In the closing minutes of the Brazillian Grand Prix, Ferrari's Felipe Massa crossed the finishing line to win at the Sao Paolo Circuit. The moment he crossed that chequered flag, everyone thought, Ferrari has conquered both championships this year. With some good luck and a little help from the also very talented Sebastien Vetel, they have found a new Formula 1 hero, in his homeland, Brazilian's pride, Felipe Massa.

People then started to get ready to rejoice, while waiting for the other slow pokes to finish running on the track.

Or so they thought.

In the final corner of the race, Lewis Hamilton who was supposed to be losing out to Felipe Massa in the Drivers Championship pulled a miraculous stunt to overtake Timo Glock to take 5th position. At 5th position he was, and then he crossed the finishing line. As the brand new Formula 1 Champion Driver.

Instantly, the celebration preparations in the Ferrari garage ceased.

My hats off to Lewis for winning the Drivers Title on his second season. Unfortunately, mere figures and trophies aren't convincing me that you are indeed a good driver. You're just a lucky b*st*rd.

My apologies to British Hamilton fans. Why are you supporting someone who moved from a taxable British bank account to a new tax-free Swiss account? He's earning millions, and could be subsidizing loads on your merciless English Taxes, to benefit the NHS or other government funded projects. And yet, this selfish airhead decided that he wants to earn all your money (through endorsements and sponsorships), then keep it ALL for himself. I feel sad for your blind support.

My deepest regrets and consolation for the Ferrari Team. Who worked so incredibly hard against the McLaren scandal, on the engines, and on the drivers. You have never failed to prove that you operate as a TEAM. Win as a team. Lose as a team. Ferrari deserves nothing short of a Constructors Championship really. However I am confident, that with Kimi and Felipe under your belt again next season, this will give Lewis a run for his money.

One championship for each team. Constructors for Ferrari, Drivers for Hamilton of McLaren. Share share lah ok. McLaren you take what you can get. Next year you're not getting it anymore.

P/s: Screw you HamHam for ruining my day.

P/p/s: Although Kimi didn't win the championship this year, I'm glad he got 3rd anyway. He's been brilliant. As always =)
